Data Management Plan
A Data Management Plan (DMP) is a document that describes how you will treat your data during a project and what happens with the data after the project ends. It allows researchers to reflect on and plan the entire life cycle of their research data.
Why does the DMP matter in the conceptual phase?
Developing the first version of the DMP early in the project helps researchers think systematically about how visual data will be handled across the research lifecycle.
Guidelines to prepare a data management plan
Different funding agencies and higher education institutions provide their own guidelines and templates for DMPs reflecting their priorities, for example The Swiss National Science Foundation
Overall, to write a strong and effective Data Management Plan, ten simple rules can serve as practical guidance. As outlined by Michener (2015), these rules help researchers structure their DMP in a clear and responsible way. Particularly relevant in the context of these recommendations are Rule 4; Rule 6, Rule 7, and Rule 8.
For more detailed guidance on how to implement these rules in practice, see e.g. here: link.
